„Künstlerlandschaft | Chiemsee“

Dr. Ruth Negendanck

When it came to documenting the art-historical dimension of the Frauenchiemsee artists’ colony, it was quickly recognised that there was no art-historically sound treatise on our cultural heritage with which we could prove our identity among the European artists’ colonies.

Such a work therefore urgently needed to be written. The title quickly became clear: „Künstlerlandschaft Chiemsee“. A qualified author was found in art historian Dr Ruth Negendanck from the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg.
The work describes the emergence of the Chiemsee artistic landscape, starting with the development of one of the oldest European artists’ colonies on Frauenchiemsee from 1828, as well as the formation of branches around the lake, especially in Gstadt, Übersee, Prien and Hartmannsberg.

Reference is also made to artists who led the way to modernism. With the sculptor Marianne Lüdicke, the painter Konrad Huber and the woodcutter Lenz Hamberger, artists are included who have contributed in a very special way to today’s Chiemsee artistic landscape.

The 288-page book was presented to the German and European public at the euroart General Assembly in September 2008, which was organised by the Kulturförderverein in Prien.
