Imagination with a needle and thread / Verbeelding met naald en draad

Anneliet van Beelen (1959) exhibits images of textiles, paintings and embroidery in the exhibition rooms. She spent her childhood in Katwijk, trained at the Minerva art academy in Groningen and now mainly works in the northern provinces.

In her work she is inspired by things that deviate from the normal and by the outsider, people who are excluded. Another source of inspiration is the human shortcoming that causes people to fail, even though they do their very best. Anneliet van Beelen knows how to convert this fascination with the difficult side of life into art, sometimes with a tear, more often with humor or a wink and always with a story that makes you think.

She combines things that apparently have nothing to do with each other and seems to want to mislead the visitor. She gives textiles that others have discarded a second life, makes sculptures from them, embroiders with them or paints on them. The result of these different techniques is always a surprise.
